Sunlander Services Stop School Holiday Squeeze

Monday, 20 August 2012

Queensland Rail Travel will be able to deliver an even greater number of tourists and locals to areas across the state during the upcoming school holiday period, with the organisation putting on extra services.

Four additional Sunlander services will run on the North Coast line between Brisbane and Cairns in September and October.

The trains will feature triple sleeping berths for families, single and twin sleepers, along with economy seats.

Queensland Rail Chief Customer Officer, Cathy Heffernan, said the decision to put on extra services was made due to the popularity of train travel during school breaks.

“During school holidays our scheduled train services generally run near capacity,” Ms Heffernan said.

“Rail travel is a very popular way to move around the state, and we want to make sure school kids, families, tourists and our other customers get to where they need to be.

“Queensland Rail Travel trains can transport you to just about anywhere in the state, so rail is the ideal choice, regardless of where you want to go.

The extra northbound services will depart Brisbane’s Roma Street station on September 26 and October 3, departing at 1:25pm.

For customers heading southbound, the additional trains will leave Cairns at 9:15am on September 28 and October 5, stopping at all major towns and cities on the way to Brisbane.

“Rail holidays start from the moment you step on board,” Ms Heffernan said.

“On The Sunlander you get a great view of the changing landscape of the east coast, but you’ve also got the freedom to move around the train, have a meal or stretch out in bed.”
