Why pay hundreds for a flight?: One Cent Flights

A 19 year-old Australian has set-up the travel equivalent of online auction site QuiBids, allowing travellers to bid on return flights from one cent.

One Cent Flights works off the penny auctions model, with bids purchased up-front and continuing “until all is said and done”.

The site has already auctioned 30 return flights since its launch in August this year, with the cheapest flight selling for 49 cents.

“Consumers might be familiar with bidding on goods such as clothing, furniture or electronics, but until now, no one has given them the chance to bid on flights,” One Cent Flights founder Elliott Donazzan said.

Having already sold its first flight to New Zealand, the company revealed plans to extend its auctions to include international flights over time.
