South Korea is expected to become the host destination for a number of Australian skiers, the country’s tourism leaders say.

According to Korea’s National Tourism Organisation (KNTO), a Nat Geo TV segment on skiing in Korea, which aired last winter, created a “great deal of interest” among Aussies, interest that is predicted to draw the Australian market into Korea’s ski resorts this winter.

“Hitting the slopes in Korea is a lot closer to home for many Australians than the resorts of USA, Canada & Europe, and a great deal cheaper,” KNTO explained.

“Yongpyong on the east coast of Korea is approximately 3 hrs from downtown Seoul and is known as ‘Korea’s Ski Mecca’ with a growing reputation with foreign skiers.”

According to KNTO, among the popular slopes and resorts for Aussies include, Yongpyong Mountain and Resort for its 25 kilometers of groomed slopes, facilities and the “massive” Peak Island water theme park with hot springs.
