Four out of five Aussie travellers will make a bee-line to the BBQ for the faithful sausage sizzle when on a self-catering holiday, according to recent research. Research on eating habits while on holidays conducted by BIG4 Holiday Parks reveals almost half (45 percent) claimed a fast and convenient meal was top priority with a healthy meal taking a back seat as 23 percent identified it as a concern. During the 30 years in the holiday park industry, BIG4 revealed standards of accommodation and facilities have improved substantially, however people’s eating habits while visiting these parks had not. BIG4 Holiday Parks general manager of marketing Kari Hunter said while a BBQ on a warm summer’s night is appealing; park facilities and amenities provide guests with all the tools needed create fast, fresh and healthy alternatives to the humble sausage sizzle. Challenging the concept that healthy meals can’t be made quickly and easily, BIG4 teamed up with Australian food blogs, Fig & Cherry and One Bite More to create a tasty, healthy meal for no more than $30 using camp kitchen facilities. Recipes from this challenge included BBQ inspired Cajun Chicken with Grilled Vegetables and Polenta and some Healthy Chicken Sausage Rolls (that can be taken cold on a picnic the following day – or cooked before you leave home) served with Sweet Potato Oven Chips. These can be found online at blog.BIG4.com.au The challenge has also been put out to Australian travellers to send in their favourite healthy camping recipes, to be in with a chance to win one of four two-night cabin stays for two adults and two children. Valued at up to $400, each prize can be used at any of the 180 BIG4 Holiday Parks around Australia. To enter, simply email your recipe to marketing@big4.com.au by no later than 30 July 2012.
