Fewer travellers are putting pen to paper and sending a postcard during their holidays as photo sharing and status updates through social media sites like Facebook and Twitter take over. Recent studies show prior to the internet, a third of people travelling would send a postcard home. Now only three percent make the effort, as reported by the Daily Mail. Analyst Alexandra Richmond said we are travelling more and in the age of social media, are more connected than ever before. “Young people may never have experienced the joy of receiving a postcard and many others may have forgotten the sensory experience a writing set gives the sender,” Ms Richmond said. Technological advancements of mobile phones means text messages, emails and internet access allows travellers to inform family and friends of their experiences in real-time holiday updates. |
