Event shines light on female wine leaders Its girl power of the most refined kind. On Wednesday September 12, the award-winning The Laneway bar in Mary Street will host a coming together of woman that wine! Ladies of The Laneway is the first and signature event for the wine industry, and ladies who appreciate fine wine. The September 12 event will be hosted by Louise Hemsley-Smith, the brains and talent behind the Certified Organic Spring Seed Wine Company from McLaren Vale together with Urbane Restaurant’s Sommelier, Sarah Ramwell. Both women are forging standout careers in a traditionally very male dominated industry. “This event is the first of what we hope will be a regular program, a balancing of the sexes if you like in this industry, and one which allows ladies who enjoy their wine, to do so in a hosted, educative environment with friends,” said Louise Hemsley-Smith. Hosting the program at The Laneway – the small bar which started the whole small bar revolution in Brisbane, and is the only Queensland finalist up for Bar of the Year 2012 in the prestigious Australian Bartender awards – is only fitting. Five wines from the Spring Seed Wines stable will be showcased at the event, accompanied with canapés made by head chef Alejandro Cancino, recently named Gourmet Traveller Best New Talent 2012. A custom-created Moscato cocktail will finish the evening. Spring Seed Wines are single vineyard, organically grown and certified wines that best express the unique character of the foothills site in McLaren Vale, Australia, in a fresh, balanced style which appeals to wine lovers everywhere. Traditional winemaking and natural minimal processing, combined with organic viticulture helps to ensure the purity, integrity and flavour of their vineyards. Wines to be showcased include:
