Australian Chinese sculptor Argo Ho will stage his first solo exhibition, Silent Fire in Sydney from 14 to 27 September 2012. This free exhibition will showcase a series of his winning bronze sculptures including Delicacy, which won the first prize at the Darling Parking Sculpture Exhibition in 2009. He is the first Asian winner of this prize in the competition.

Ho is known for abstracts in metal that feature complex structures and mechanical lines. Paradoxically most of his works are characterized by flowing and airy forms, which are both visually and emotionally arresting.
Visitors will sail into the creative voyage of Ho, delighting in his sculpting over the past decade.

‘Silent Fire’ is a state of mind Ho experiences during the creation of these bronze sculptures. Fire is the source of energy used in transforming the metal materials into a liquid form. ’Silent Fire’ refers to the static and incandescent state of the casting process before an artwork can take shape. It epitomises the contemplative state when a sculptor focuses with total determination and concentration, which Ho considers is the high point in creating his works.

“I want visitors to this exhibition to savor my joyful moments of sculpting,” Ho says.

Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore MP; Founding Director of Sculpture by the Sea, David Handley; and Acting Director of Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Linda Law, will be speaking at the launch of the exhibition.
