Sufe Bradshaw

Taking five, actress Sufe Bradshaw stepped away from the cameras to share memories of road tripping with her eight siblings and tell e-Travel Blackboard why she'd follow Richard Branson "anywhere".

Sufe takes her brother on journey around LA

e-Travel Blackboard: I was doing some snooping around and found that you have such a beautiful heritage, with your father from Sicily and your mother from Ghana - have you had the opportunity to visit Italy or Africa?

Sufe: My mum was actually first generation American, but she did have Ghana roots and yeah, my dad was from Sicily. It is pretty cool; it's probably where I get all my passion from, 'cause you get the Italian, and you get the African, and it's very passionate. But no, I haven't had the chance to visit them yet.

e-Travel Blackboard: Can you speak Italian?

Sufe: I actually have been working on a couple of words in Italian but it is one of the languages I want to learn, right after Spanish. I don't speak Italian but thanks for the reminder - my brother actually studied Spanish in college and speaks it fluently and he studied Italian too and he makes a good point: it's easier to learn Spanish because we have a large population of Latinos so it was easier for him to study it.

e-Travel Blackboard: So you haven't had the opportunity to travel to Italy yet?

I haven't no, I intend to though. The furthest I've been out of the country for work was to London. It's where we shot the show [Veep] but I did not get an opportunity to go to Italy. I want to go to Florence, though. I've seen books of Florence and I can't wait to go there - it's so interesting.

e-Travel Blackboard: Any plans to visit Africa?

Sufe: I haven't visited Africa either. I was born in America - actually I was born in Chicago, and then mum took us up here in Los Angeles and I got into acting, which is a full time job so I haven't done much of the travelling.

This year I have though, I got to go to Miami, which was so beautiful, and then London - that was fantastic as well - but the extent of it has been a lot travelling in the US.

e-Travel Blackboard: What was your favourite thing about London?

Sufe: I loved the Piccadilly Circus - it was on my favourite things. We [the cast of Veep] stayed at a hotel called the Langham Hotel and it wasn't too far from the tube - the underground train system. And of course we were doing a lot of copy rehearsals for the show, but Piccadilly was my favourite; it was my jam and a bunch of us tried to go to a play every other night. London has great restaurants as well.

In London I also took the train to France - it was so gorgeous and it was like a dream come true because you hear about France, and see it in all the movies, but you never think it will be like that live, but it was. It was so beautiful having a cafe' latte from the place it originally originated from.

In fact, we are scheduled to go back to London to do more work shopping, and I would love to go back to France and see the Eiffel Tower.

e-Travel Blackboard: Any other destinations on your travel list?

Sufe: My brother is living in Egypt... I intend to go to Egypt at some point; I've done a lot of studying on it.

Of course I'd like to go to Italy; I'd like to see Australia. A friend of mine, he's an actor, just got back from Australia and I would love to see it cause it sounds fantastic. I think Africa and Italy for now. And of course inward in the states; I have never been to Mane so I would love to visit - and I'd like to go to the Grand Canyon.

e-Travel Blackboard: What other locations in the USA have you visited?

Sufe: I have a need to live in Vegas - it's really great and every time I get a chance I'll take a road trip there.

e-Travel Blackboard: Do you prefer to road trip over flying?

Sufe: I do a lot of flying to get across the country but road trips are great and it's all about the people in the car with you. Even just being a woman and being able to get around knowing that I can get around on my own is great. That's been great, I do like road tripping a lot and backpacking is also great - being in the business for a while now I haven't had a lot of time to backpack.

e-Travel Blackboard: You grew up in a family of eight siblings, how did your parents manage all of you when heading out on holidays?

Sufe: Well, I think my fondness for road trips comes from travelling as a kid cause it was about piling into the station wagon, pointing in a direction, and just going. Mum handled it like a pro, it was like coaching a football team - she did good work.

It definitely took a whole lot of planning but my mum was great at delegating - having the older kids looking after middle kids and the middle kids looking after the younger kids. She was awesome that way. She did a job of delegation.

e-Travel Blackboard: Name three items you must always travel with?

Sufe: I never use to be a luggage girl, I never use to have designer suitcases but when I started to travel a lot I realized how important it is to have sturdy luggage. Now my suitcase has wheels on it, and you know I've learnt that the less the better when traveling, but you never want to be left without the stuff you need. But definitely my luggage has to have wheels on it. Got to have a good book to keep you entertained on the road. I like audio tapes as well - I'm big on them - I love iPads now - there was a time when everyone was lugging around ancient PCs and now it's just a quick tablet: it's heaven and it makes all the difference. Oh, and I got to have a camera.

e-Travel Blackboard: Finally, you got to sort of travel out of space when you were in Star Trek, do you have any plans to join Richard Branson on his first commercial trip into space? Only $100,00 a ticket...

Sufe: I've traveled Virgin a lot and you'd think it's all the rumors and it wouldn't be that true, but everything about the airline is luxurious, and it's the coolest airline. It has such a friendly environment... so I'd follow Richard anywhere [laughs].
