Along with retail, travel and joy, burglary also picks up over the holiday season according to research, with one in fifty homes in the US experiencing a break-in each year.

Helping you avoid the Christmas bandits, home security company, Hydreon Corporation offers these four tips to keep your house from looking like it received a visit from the Grinch in your absence:

  1. Get rid of signs that suggest you are not there. For example stop mail coming in for a few days.
  2. Make your home look occupied with a timer on your front and back door lights or setting up high tech, Fake TV, which makes it look like you stayed home to watch a Christmas movie.
  3. Getting to know your neighbours is also a great deterrent as they can look out for any unfamiliar faces roaming around your property.
  4. Although tough for some, avoid posting vacation status’ on social networking site. Not all information stays within our private pages and you don’t want to risk having your holiday details in the hands of potential burglars.

Know of any other great tips for keeping the house burglar-free over the holidays?
